Cooperation Memorandum Signed between Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope and Tongji Hospital

On July 16th, Dr. David Horne, Interim Director of Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, Duarte, CA led a delegation of four other members to visit Tongji Hospital and signed cooperation agreement with Tongji.

At 10:30 a.m., Professor CHEN Anmin, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and President of Tongji Hospital received the delegation warmly. Firstly, Prof. Chen extended a warm welcome to Dr. Horne and his delegation. Secondly, President Chen again expressed his heartfelt thanks to the hospitality they received while visiting City of Hope last year. Last but not least, he gave an introduction of Tongji Hospital and its development in the recent years to the foreign guests. Dr. Horne later expressed his thanks to the reception of Tongji Hospital and also spoke highly of Tongji’s achievement these years. After that, the bilateral parties held a deep discussion and consultation on the mutual interests, cooperation fields and methods and so on. At last, Cooperation Memorandum between Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope and Tongji Hospital was signed.

In the afternoon, Dr. Horne, Interim Director of Beckman Research Institute, Dr. Stein, Arthur and Rosalie Kaplan Chair and Professor, Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research and Dr. Chen, Chair of Department of Cancer Biology, Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope respectively gave three speeches to the audiences of Tongji with the topics of Introduction of Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope, Translational Medicine Development System of Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope as well as Latest Development of Oncology Research of City of Hope. There were over 300 doctors and students attending the speeches and they extended a long discussion with the speakers according to the topics. Over 20 questions raised by the audiences and the speakers’ patient and humorous answers drew a round of applause.

During the period, the foreign guests also visited some departments such as the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Room in the Out-Patient Building, Biomedicine Center and also communicated with Professor Du Guang, Dean of Pharmacy and Prof. Wang Congyi, Dean of Biomedicine Center in terms of the development and medical effect of TCM, the development of Translational Medicine, the treatment of oncology and diabetes and so on. After the brief understanding, the bilateral parties both got interested in and looked forward to the future cooperation.
