Research

Xu has long engaged in fundamental and clinical research in respiratory diseases such as hypoxic pulmonary hypertension, COPD and bronchial asthma. Xu is the Director of the Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases under Ministry of Health, academic leader of Internal Medicine (respiratory diseases), Director of the Respiratory Diseases Research Institute of Tongji Medical College, HUST, and Director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Tongji Hospital. He also serves as Director of the Respiratory Disease Society under the Hubei branch of Chinese Medical Association, vice-Chairman of the Chinese Society of Respiratory Diseases, and vice editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.

Key Projects Involved

1. In charge of many projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one critical project under the “Tenth Five-Year Plan”, state education fund projects and key clinical projects under the Ministry of Health;
2. Participated in one national key scientific and technological task under the “Seventh Five-Year Plan”, three under the eighth and ninth “Five-Year Plan”, one technology support project under the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, one cooperation project of the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization, and one key scientific and technological task of Hubei Province.

Honors & Awards

1. Second prize in national scientific and technological progress nominated by the Ministry of Education;
2. Third prize in scientific and technological progress by the Ministry of Health;
